Leah Dygert, LCSW
There are so many misconceptions about what going to therapy will look like.
The first thing I want clients to know is I try very hard to create a peaceful safe environment that makes having conversations easier. There is a sofa in my office, but you don’t have to lie down on it, that is unless you want to.
My office is bathed in natural lighting and designed for your comfort.
The next thing clients need to know is that they set the pace…
… and their concerns will be addressed in a framework of therapy.
The first few sessions are designed to help the client learn I can be trusted with thoughts and feelings and to establish a relationship with each other based on this trust. Therapy will begin once a client feels ready to deal with hard things.
My passion is working with clients who have experienced trauma.
Trauma is what the client describes as events that are difficult and upsetting to think about and remember. I am an expert in working with issues concerning Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder. This knowledge has come from having these issues and raising children with these issues.
I also enjoy working with couples who need assistance in making marriages strong and unified.
It seems that life now has so many more challenges and demands.
People are overwhelmed, anxious, sad, busy with children, technology, and often feel paralyzed about how to deal with what they are feeling. Therapy is just extra help to deal with the issues they face daily.
My desire is to provide quality health care to everyone.
I am confident that Journey to New Beginnings also shares this desire. Every therapist in our office, including myself, has the most up to date training and is held to a high standard of care for our clients.
A little more about me…
I have not always parented the best way, and I see where I could have done things differently in my marriage, but this has brought some clarity that I am willing to share in therapy as we work together to solve problems.
I have thirty plus years of experience as a therapist, I have two grown children, and have been married for over thirty years.
I attended the University of Tennessee at Martin for my undergraduate degree in Social Work and attended the University of Tennessee at Memphis for my graduate degree in Social Work.
I have been trained as an EMDR therapist for almost 10 years.
I am energized by being outside, in the boat when my husband is fishing, and traveling. I love to snow ski, wakeboard, or generally be on water either frozen or thawed.
I love Mississippi State Bulldogs and pineapples which you will see the moment you enter my office.
