Mary Ashton Fowler, LPC
To heal it, you have got to feel it.
No one wants to walk through life’s hurts, but I hope that when you decide to, I can be a supportive companion on your journey.
Yes, therapy is complex, but once you get to the other side and see actual growth within yourself, you will see how much it’s worth. As a therapist, I have witnessed growth in many people – of all ages, genders, and races.
There is something so rewarding when seeing a client overcome something that once seemed impossible to face.
Primarily, I have worked with adolescents and adults who struggle with co-occurring issues, such as substance abuse and trauma. Throughout that work, I have also gained experience in working with anxiety, depression, grief, relational issues, and behavioral issues. I also have experience in group, couples, and family therapy.
Helping others is my Passion!
And being a therapist is my Purpose.
As a therapist, one thing I have been known for is my deep compassion, but also my straightforward approach. Being a more straightforward therapist comes from genuine care and understanding that getting to the root of the problem is necessary when trying to grow.
It is my goal, not just as a therapist but as a human being, to create a space for people to feel safe, heard, and valued.
I do my best to show my clients unconditional positive regard and empathy throughout their therapeutic experience.
Welcome to a place of peace and understanding.
I genuinely want every client, no matter who they are, to walk into my office, feel welcomed, and have a sense of peace.
In my office, you will find many fidget toys (I even have some for myself), artwork from past clients, and pictures from my life.
I want clients to see that I am also human, and while we may not have the same life experiences, I still value every story, emotion, outburst, laugh, and cry shared.
About Me
“If you judge people, you have no time to love them.” – Mother Teresa
I try to live by this quote.
An aspect of life I feel people frequently feel judged because of their mental health.
As someone who deals with mental health struggles and has watched loved ones battle theirs for years, I hope to see the day that it is no longer stigmatized and taken as seriously as physical health.
Here’s information about my education.
I am currently a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). My bachelor’s degree is in psychology with a minor in early childhood development, and my master’s degree is in clinical mental health counseling from Delta State University (Go Okra!).
Sometimes I think about going back to school – then I remember all the papers I had to write, and quickly change my mind!
When I’m not working
You can usually find me all curled up at home watching some murder show or rom-com on Netflix. I enjoy spending time outdoors with my friends and family or playing any board/card game.
My family is everything to me, including my three dogs, Rudy, Cleo, Phoebe, and my cat Albert!
I genuinely hope you decide to give yourself the gift of therapy, and I look forward to being along for the ride!
