Mattie Butler, LPC
Our work together…
Being a child is tough.
I’m here to help your child navigate through their constantly changing world. I love incorporating play into therapy to help decrease anxiety, stress, and emotional outbursts. I also enjoy working with parents to improve the parent-child relationship to increase positive behaviors.
I also work with adults struggling with depression, anxiety, low self-esteem… and even those just struggling with everyday stress in life. I can see you as an individual, or I can work with your family unit as a whole.
Sometimes just the thought…
… of making an appointment for therapy is hard, and I understand that.
Trying to convince your child or teenager to come to therapy can be even harder. I aim to alleviate that struggle… for both of you.
I like to have fun and laugh which can make you feel relaxed and at home. I want you to feel comfortable in my office so you can relax and work through whatever it is that life has thrown at you.
When you feel heard, loved, and accepted the fear of therapy decreases. My goal is to make you feel comfortable and confident to be your true self.
I take my time getting to know you, your family, and everything that is going on so we can work together to get you where you want to be.
Who says therapy can’t be fun?
In my office, you will find plenty of creative interventions, crafts, and games for “children” of all ages (0 – 100!).
Creativity has no boundaries, especially when it comes to therapy. There are plenty of options such as painting, sculpting with play-doh, sand play, therapeutic board and card games, plenty of fidget toys and so much more.
Using creative interventions and games allows you to take the stress off talk therapy and allows you to express your emotions through art. Sometimes words are hard, using creative interventions allows you to express yourself in a different way.
Using art and games in therapy allows you to be yourself by removing the boundaries and being free in your expressions.
I want my office to be a space where you feel free to be yourself. Just have a seat and take a load off!
About me…
I like to live by the maxim…
“Be the person you needed when you were younger.”
I have had my fair share of struggles and hardships. Because of this, my office is always a judgment-free zone. With time, I hope it will become a space for you to feel safe and heard.
My educational background…
I am currently a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC).
I earned my bachelor’s (psychology with a minor in early childhood development) and master’s (clinical mental health counseling) degrees from Delta State University (Go Okra!). So, I’ve learned how to work with clients of all ages and backgrounds.
In my free time…
You can usually find me playing with my 75-pound boxer or spending time with family.
I love exploring, new adventures, and making memories with friends and family.
In the summer, you can find me in the water or somewhere outside. In the winter, I am usually curled up with a good book or binge-watching Netflix crime documentaries.
I look forward to meeting you!
Whether you need to go outside and scream or bury your face in a pillow and cry, I’m here for you.
