Anxiety

“My mind won’t turn off, especially at night.”

Even my body is reacting to my anxiety: knots in my back, stomach aches, stress headaches.

I love my family… but, recently I have been blowing up at them. I don’t know where this anger is coming from, which makes me feel guilty.

Sleep… I don’t remember the last time I truly slept. Focusing on anything takes a lot of effort. I just get so distracted.

Panic attacks seem to come out of nowhere, and there is almost always a nagging fear it will happen again. During the panic attacks, I feel like I am going to have a heart attack – or I am going crazy.

I have grown fearful of the world around me.

What is wrong with me?

Stop worrying. Easier said than done.

I can’t “just stop” worrying, even though I know some of the things I worry or obsess about are unreasonable. If I could just stop worrying, I think I would have already done that.

My friends and family think they’re helping by telling me “that’s a dumb thing to think about” or “why would you worry about that.” It makes me angry and feel alone like nobody understands I can’t just stop.

I have it; my child has it. It’s just a part of us.

My child has a lot of physical symptoms that we just can’t explain. I don’t know what else to do.

Anxiety in children is pretty common…

… and something we help children deal with every day. If an adult or others in the home have anxiety, children can actually feed off of and feel their anxiety, too.

Children with anxiety are often misdiagnosed with ADHD. They are on ADHD medication, but it isn’t working – nothing seems to help.

When we see this, we usually look at anxiety to see if the wrong thing is being treated. Anxiety and ADHD in children look a lot alike, so it’s important to have a professional delve into both diagnoses to see what is truly going on.

Therapy can help.

Being able to talk to a professional who truly understands and can offer ways to help can be a relief for people with anxiety.

Wouldn’t it be great to worry or have anxiety only when it’s appropriate? It’s time for you to control your anxiety rather than your anxiety controlling you.

Once we can establish the driving force, we get to work on eliminating it…
